I picked up the two pottery pieces at the same sale where I purchased the Bears in a previous posting. I'm not sure if the basket and drum were bought from that sale or from somewhere else. Both the pottery pieces Are signed on the bottom, and I'm curious to know if anyone has any more info about the basket and the drum. Thanks for looking

All I can tell you is that the basket is one of the Pakistani imports sold all over the Southwest. It has a vaguely "southwest" look, but is made from date palm fiber. They also usually feature one side that is visibly "rougher" and looks unfinished, compared to the side meant for display. The Native American Indian baskets that these copy, will be smooth and finished carefully on both sides, will have smaller stitches, and only natural colors.

Many of the designs on the baskets from Pakistan are copied from actual Indian basket patterns, but the materials and construction techniques will differ. Unfortunately, these are so common, and so often misidentified on the web as Indian baskets, that now people are "researching" on line and actually believing that they are authentic Native American Indian. But check out the web sites of some of the big importers, like Zanzibar Trading, or El Paso Saddleblanket Company, and you will see this basket.
