Small cream/oatmeal vase/pot measuring 7cm excluding neck it has raised enameled? flowers and butterflies in pink gold blue & red it looks like there would have been a lid which is missing I found this while clearing my shed and would love to know it's history thanks
Your right it would have had a lid. its a Tea Caddie possible a ginger jar but I lean more for being a tea caddie. Japanese most likely Kinkozan pottery does it have a marl. Mid to late Meiji period
There is no mark as such but two faint initials possibly J B? I should also add it has a crackle glaze thank you for taking the time to answer
The crackle is common on this type of Japanese pottery.
My bad I looked over the size, but I think it could be a tea caddie even with the size I found one here that is square form Kinkozan https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/philip-serrell/catalogue-id-srph10018/lot-b99db2aa-8d73-4762-8517-a50900b7bf32 and its 3 inches square 4 high. only a 1/4 smaller. But czechglass5, could also be right also But to me it doesn't look like it would of had a insert for holding ink and if it did I would expect to see ink stains around the bottom were the lid sat.

A snippet of information regarding Kinkozan at the bottom of the page. Could you post a photo of the bottom showing the marks you found. Looking at some Kinkozan pieces I notice some are signed on the piece itself.
If you do an image search on Kinkozan pottery there are some very good examples.

Thank-you for all your replies it doesn't have a mark as such just a tiny faint impression of JB? There is no ink stains & the top is only 4.5 cm across I don't know a lot about Japanese pottery but love anything interesting would love to know how it ended up in the shed!
