The trunk is part of our family and travel from Indiana to Florida in the 1800's. The outside has a tin design but would love to know more about the trunk and if older than the late 1800's. The trunk was past down to each daughter and given to me many years ago. I wanted to refurbish when I retired and had the time. The trunk has all the hardware on the front but missing the straps on the side but does have the tray inside also. I would love to know what the photo inside represents.

Hi Linda1800, You have a cross slat round top trunk, the cross slat design has wood slats running from front to back, was patented in 1880 along with the metal slat clamps by Charles Taylor. Your trunk was probably made around late 1890's to early 1900's, this is a very common tin pattern you see it a lot, the chromolithograph pictures were very random and had no specific meaning, many were of children playing, women, animals, flowers you name it. The trunk looks to be in good shape, leather handles can be replaced, I wood start with a good cleaning with a soft bristle brush and Murphy's oil soap. Hope this helps, greendog.

Thank you for all the great information. I love the Trunk and it is in beautiful shape. The paper is worn some but really in good shape. This is great information and will take your advice on cleaning. I hope I can find a family member that will love it and
      the history behind.
