I have a handful of these in my collection and wish that I could find more.

This is a souvenir beer stein from the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR). I really like the C-119 "Flying Boxcar" on the lid. The nude lithopane in the bottom is typical of steins from this era.

The 511th was part of the 11th Airborne Division (see patch) and has an unbelievable history.

It was formed at Camp Toccoa in 1943 and had combat jumps at Tagatay Ridge, Los Banos (two companies) and Luzon.

Post war it served occupation duty in Japan and then was sent to Camp Campbell. Men from the 511th were used to bring the 187th ARCT to full strength for its fight in Korea.

In 1956 the entire Division was sent to Germany to replace the 5th ID. It remained there until the Division was deactivated in 1958.

Have my father's( Major Ralph J. Archer) 11th ABN Division stein, flying box car is impressive on top. 511th Falcons, "Strength from above" crest 11th abn and glider patch, and Augsburg city crest,no lithopane as he was a good Catholic lad -with 4 kids. Additionally, I have my sterling silver baby cup baby engraved with Falcon crest.

Thanks for sharing-- I didn't know you could have them drop the lithopane.

Post some pictures of your items, I sure would like to see them.

These souvenir mugs could be made with a varity of bottoms. Most chose the topless lady, as they were young and brash.

What other bottoms have you seen? I have only seen the one pictured here.

The steins I have are all military related.

I see why they all picked the lady over the horn guy!

      Thanks again for the info.
