Multi (Marti) Glass have made animal sculptures a feature of their glass production and this large sculpture is one of theirs, probably from the 1980s or so. It's the biggest from them I have seen, so I'm pretty chuffed to own it.

I think it has a very Japanese style to it; the bird shape, the latticino segments in the birds' bodies, the gold leaf in the branches, and the thick base.
I can see this does not have the delicacy of sculptures from Venice, but there is no doubt it has taken lots of work and skill.

    Height: 34cm (13.5cm)
    Width: 40cm (15.5in)

What a beautiful glass creation, love the colors and the way the birds are displayed, but most of all, the fluidity of the sculpt that is so very Japanese. Thanks for sharing this, Karen! :)

Thanks Katherine! I don't think the photos help much, it's quite imposing really.

That really is quite impressive Karen. Tons of technique involved for sure. I agree with your comparison but still beautifully done. What a prize ! :)

It surprised me when it arrived Peggy, as there was more to it than I had thought.
It is presiding over the lounge room as we speak.

I like the detail, noticed the latticino, like the eyes and wings and the colors, I'd be chuffed too.

It was pretty well packed Rose! Took a good half hour to unwrap, which was actually lots of fun and anticipation.

This is such a lovely sculpture Karen! It's obviously a high quality piece with the burst gold foil, latticino work and attention to detail... i.e. the beautifully made eyes! It can definitely hold its own against similar styled Murano pieces.

Rick when this is against something from Formia or Salviati it doesn't show the same fineness and delicacy. Having said that I agree this is accomplished glass and quite beautiful. For me, it ticks lots of Japanese glass boxes, in that it shows some typical techniques they use.
I am really happy to have it here and love it!
As always, thanks so much for your comments.
