This is a carving of our fireplace mantel. We have no idea of it's history. It looks like a wine making scene possibly Dom Perignon. Our house was built in 1910. We think this may be original. Any info would be helpful.

Looks to be very well done. Detailed right down to the offset of the joints of the blocks in the wall and a tilted shelf where it would be anchored to the mortar joint. Who ever did this had an eye for detail and reality rather than making everything perfect.

I wonder if identifying the insignia/carving symbol in the pillars would shed any light on a possible religious order of monks etc. That carving isn't something I would expect to see and therefore I tend to assume it had a meaning to the individual who did the work or a relationship to the image.
