Hey everyone, got this one on E bay auction last weekend, had to pay up for it but it's a very nice trunk. Both the wood and metal are in very good condition, especially the wood, basically all I did was a good cleaning with Murphy's oil soap, some light sanding and a hand rubbed poly finish, the color of the wood slats are exactly what was under all the dirt and grime, no stain was added. Not sure if I'am going to paint the metal black or not, kinda like the look of the natural metal, no tray, have stripped and cleaned the old paper out and will start on the inside soon. The trunk is 34 inches long, 21 inches deep and about 27 inches at the hump, the trunk doesn't have the traditional Maier rear hinges but rather I believe Beckwith hinges, but I have been reassured that it was made by Martin Maier

Wonderful M.Maier trunk greendog, love the dark stain on the ends of the flat slats
where the slat clamps are located. Have seen this detail on other trunks of this type with his signature hardware.
    Yes, F.W. Beckwith hinge 1885 https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/pages/US322239-0.png
I pretty sure Eagle made this style lock in 1892 using F.W. Mix Patents.
I did see this one online and considered bidding, glad to see it found a good

Thanks Drill, what made it nice for me is that it was only an hour from my house, no shipping cost.

Hey Drill, that's off of a Martin Maier flat top in Dundee Michigan, wouldn't mind getting it, but they want way to much for it, greendog

Thanks to all, this is one of my favorite trunks in my collection, someday I'll get around to finishing the inside and post it, greendog.
