I picked up this wonderful old arts and crafts cabinet vase and I am trying to identify the maker and it's age. It has a wide mouth (almost 3 3/4" in diameter) and it stands about 5" high. It has a gorgeous mottled glaze in shades of browns, almost a dark moss green, and a bit of black. It is also glazed on the inside. It appears from the bottom that the clay body is a dark red brown.
It is marked with the initials DW, and has the number 222 underfoot.
Any information or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time and expertise
Looks just like Red Wing's "Nokomis" glaze, but clay and markings are all wrong.
Is the last line on the "W" is crossed at the top? Possibly making the mark DWT or DWJ? It's hard to tell for sure from pic, but is there an additional marking inside the "D"?
I think that's just a smug art.pottery, it looks like DW to me. :^) You're right about the Nokomis though, I'll post a piece I have, for comparing it, in a bit! :^)
Thank you both for the posts. It is absolutely not Nokomis by Red Wing. That was my original thought but I was told by a Red Wing expert that it wasn't one of their shapes. Is there anyway that I can post a couple of close-ups of the bottom? Do I need to create a new listing?

GOT IT! It's a Design West (aka Stoneware Design West) vase. California, circa 60s.
Nice art.pottery, it does have the Pottery Craft, look and color, I should have known it was Californian! :^)

Wow! Thank you art.pottery. You are amazing. After looking up Design West Stoneware pottery I must say the glaze on my piece is a uniquely beautiful and unlike those on similar shaped vases. Maybe it was an experimental glaze. A million thanks for your help.
@art.pottery I know this is an older post but you mentioned a mark with an arrow at the top. Can you please clarify the mark you are referring to? I have a similar vase with the d.t. And the top of the T is an arrow. Hope this message finds you well post three years and thank you!
Greetings. I just re-read my original post and I am not sure where you saw mention of an arrow at the top of a T. The mark on my pottery piece is DW and it was identified as Design West. It has a number 222. Sorry I am not more helpful. Good luck with your search.
