My collection of bakelite pins and clips plus some 2-ended jabot pins. I thought all - but realize I am missing 5 more pins LOL Why can't I do anything right? Looking at my obsession I am bummed about the special ones I lost over the years, before I knew to tape and secure them tightly as I hit the the town to hear my friends' bands.

Favorites from tiny .75" pairs to largest 3.5" green/yellow/black brooch. There's a wood and bakelite pin, an overdyed bird and some chrome beauties...a few poor quality and some prime items. When I look at this colorful mélange it reminds me why I became a graphic artist. Hope you enjoy the candy colors of bakelite pins and clips. :-)

Nice display-you could turn this into a piece of art-they go do well together :)

      Thank you Bonnie for getting this colorful clutter. :-}

Thank you Thomas - yes a "whole lot of Bakin goin on!!"

Thank you Ken - I like color, that's for sure. I've always loved bakelite and been learning about it for the past 30 years. Not an expert, but yes, love collecting it. :-)

Thanks to Mrstyndall and Aura for loves of these plastic goodies. :-)

Mrstyndall - they have been pinned to a cork board in my bedroom in the past, but I don't want the lighter items to oxidize and darken more, so now they are hidden away until I get them out to wear.

Mmm... More caramel, black and red licorice and pumpkin too!
Yummy!! I would love to have a purse made out of this wonderful plastic, probably would cost a fortune. A friend of mine back in high school had a huge radio made of this... Didn't think nothing of it... Sigh

Youhouuu! :-o What a collection. And how well does it go with that cardi!
    7. valentino97 valentino97, 5 years ago
Thank you Ms.Crsytal - Eye candy for sure! I don't have a bakelite purse either, wish I did. Even the ones that only have bakelite handles are pricy. I had a brown bakelite radio. Sold it at a garage sale years ago - Why!??

Thanks Bijou - that clip lives on the cardigan, plus a few chrome or rhodium pins that bring out the chrome line. Has to be my favorite clip. I also love the carved green pair beside it.

Thanks czechglass - good old Father Time reminds us how old we all are :-)

Thanks friends for the loves - Hunter, Phil, Gudrun, Thom, Fort, Hel1, Kevin, mcheconi, Peggy, Judy, Mani :-)

What an awesome display; I have just sat here for minutes running my eyes over each piece. Some are so different, but even the more ordinary in shape are so appealing. Bakelite just has it's own visual magic I think!

Thank you Karen - bakelite (phenolic plastics) was such a quality product with lasting strength and pretty colors. I took another picture adding my 2-sided hat pins and a few items I forgot about yesterday when I posted this :-)

      Absolutely arty grouping, Valentino!
As Karen, I enjoyed watching them individually enlarged too, and your presentation on the cardigan is so nice!!!

Thank you Kyra - aren't they fun? I like the black beetle a lot. Yeah, that's a favorite "old man" 1960's sweater in my favorite color!

How funny, I have never heard of a jabot pin...looked it up and laughed, I have tie clasp like that! Are those shoe clips too? All of these are really awesome!
    18. valentino97 valentino97, 5 years ago
Thank you czechglass - yes it's a very nice wool 60's cardigan. Usually I wear it w/black leggings and black boots.

Thanks Elisabeth - I felt like throwing a bakelite party! Found a few more this week at a famous flea market in Round Top, Texas. Will post.....:-)

Thanks Share for loving my plastics. None are shoe clips which have short hardware. I'm not against shoe clips though :-)

I have a friend in Seattle, a glass artist by the name of David Huchthausen. He owns a building, the Bemis building, on the edge of downtown Seattle and lives in a flat that is the top floor of the building. The other floors are rented out to artists for residences and studios. Dave has collected Bakelite pins for decades, and has what is considered to be one of the largest and most prolific collections in the world. His collection is truly amazing. Here is a link to his website, and there are some pics of a very small portion of his massive collection.
