I purchased this necklace last year and have not been able to find much information on the maker/designer. It has the date of 1920 engraved on it but I wonder if it might be a little earlier? I believe the designer to be Paul Peter Pfeiffer but the only examples of his work that I can find is a gold and opal necklace in Tadema Gallery's inventory and a moss agate and moonstone silver necklace on Historical Design's website. Does anyone know anything about him or seen any other examples of his work?

      Peter Paul Pfeiffer

The jewelry designer and sculptor Peter Paul Pfeiffer moved first to the colony.
Peter Paul Pfeiffer was born in 1879 in Stockach. His artistic education
Was given to Pfeiffer in Karlsruhe, where he learned sculptors and invited guests at the Kunst-
Business school. This was followed by a study in the department of drawing
And an additional training in the woodcarving trade in the Black Forest.
In 1903 he received a position at the goldsmith department of the art education school
In Pforzheim. In 1905 he became a teacher for modeling, metal driving and chiselling
      The newly founded goldsmithing school.

From 1924 he was a member of the school council and since 1934 he had the post
Of the Deputy Director. In 1945, he was appointed with the provisional
Led the Goldschmiedschule, and two years later to the Oberstudienrat
      And director.

After the war Pfeiffer set up a management room in his house, as the
Pforzheim school building was destroyed. Pfeiffer organized two school rooms in Niefern,
In which he could teach the full students. Later came another school room
      In Dillweißstein.
The artist died in Eutingen in 1957.

Pfeiffer was artistically active. For his work, he became several times
Pfeiffer worked as a sculptor, designer and carpenter. He created jewelry,
Belt buckles, reliefs, plaques, busts - here a self-portrait of the artist -
A large number of portrait reliefs and medals, among others. The Badische Heimat Denkmünze,
The Hans Thoma medal for his 80th birthday and the century medal
The Archbishopric Freiburg. On behalf of the
Birthday of Paul von Hindenburg a city plaque.

For the grave of his first wife Marianne at the Pforzheim Hauptfriedhof created
Pfeiffer a stele with a bronze necklace depicting a portrait of the deceased.
The artist also worked as a painter. From 1905 the first watercolors,
From 1910/11 the first oil paintings. During his holidays he often went on
Art-historical journeys on which numerous sketches were made. - theres an example of one of his pendants at the end of the article.

This artist is my son's great-grandfather, who was a handsome, stylish man with an overbearing personality. I did have a chance to visit Peter's daughter and granddaughter in Germany and liked them very much. The house is beautiful. My son is 17 and likes to make costumes and armor; I suppose I should get him into jewelry making. Thanks for sharing pictures of this piece.
