This is a 800 silver lapis, blue cabochon eyes, and blue enamel dragonfly brooch. It is marked 800 and does not have any other marks. I think it is German and Jugendstil. Any thoughts on the maker? It looks similar to some of the Georg Kleeman pieces I have seen but does not have maker's marks.

I agree that it could be from Germany, but it's not possible to say it with any certainty because there are many countries who recognize the 800 silver standard.

I'd say this is German. It has that cobalt blue enamel that was popular in Germany during this period.

Not so much Kleeman, but more after Kleeman. Do you have the plique book? It has a good representation of jewels like this (but not this specific one).

My money is on Franz Bores for this one rather than Kleeman. Like Kleeman, a lot of his jewellery was enamelled in this cobalt blue.

The van Hase book, Schmuck in Deutschland und Osterreich has a brooch with a similar structure (plate 43) designed by Bores & made by Farhner.

A beautiful, stylish brooch. I love the Jugendstil design of the dragonfly.

Thanks Efesgirl for your information! Thanks you for the lovely comments nutsabotas and racer4four!

Jewels1900- Thanks so much for your help and information. I thought it may have been Franz Boeres when I first got it but could not find any figural brooches by him, which is why I thought possibly Georg Kleeman. But I definitely see more similarities between the Boeres piece in the Ulrike von Hase's book and my piece. I do not have the plique book, what is the name of it? I do love my reference books.

I call it the plique book, but it is a book on German jewels with lots of plique in it. Jugendstil Schmuck by Fritz Falk. Defiantly a good un if you fancy jewels of this period.

Thanks, I do have that one already! I was hopeful there was another reference book on plique.
