    Hello!

I found this chair on the side of the road and fell in love with it. It needed quite a bit of love and so I had it reupholstered and had all the wood refinished as well as it was pretty damaged.

All I know about this chair is that it was made by the Burnat Furniture Corporation from Montreal, Canada, and that this company no longer exists.

I'm curious to know if this particular style of chair has a name, or if it falls into any category of chair type. Also, would anyone have an idea of when his chair may have been made? The reupholsterer guessed 1940s.

    Thanks so much!

      Hi there!
Burnat Furniture Corp was actually my grandfather's company, so I'm pretty excited about this post! He is a master carver from Poland and he immigrated to Canada a few months before the War broke out.

From what I can gather, this was part of his Spanish Provincial collection, and since the company was founded in 1967, this is a late 1960s early 1970s piece.

      Hope this helps!

      Hi there!

Certainly it helps! And how marvelous to know a little about your grandfather and his history. It makes the piece feel all the more dear, especially since my family came from Ukraine in the period just before and after the war as well.

If your grandfather is still around, please let him know his work has been given a new lease on life and is still being cherished to this day.

      All the best to you!

Amazing to see other Burnat furniture corp furniture! I am from Montreal, Qc and I have a sectional brown velvet Burnat couch that I adore. It is even more special knowing it was fabricated locally.

Ah Potassium9! Thank you for sharing a bit of history with us, this is very exciting!

I am doing some research on furniture repairs and restoration since negligent movers badly scratched one of the section's backrest. I'm opened to any suggestions and tips!

      Thank you all :)
