If anyone that knows pottery could help with age on this piece it is appreciated or where it could be from. The bottom seemed to have some wear to it like its been around awhile but who knows

This is traditional Mexican pottery water jar, from Tonala, in the state of Jalisco. This particular type of pottery is called canelo (cinnamon) brunido. It is burnished, not glazed, which probably accounts for the surface damage.

It probably dates mid-20th century or newer. They are popular tourist souvenirs, and come with a matching cup that fits upside down over the neck of the jar.

Sorry I can't help with the studio pottery mug. It's just about impossible to identify studio pottery, unless it's by a famous nationally-known potter. There are just too many past and present potters, here and abroad.

In this case, the best approach may be to contact a gallery or craft shop (or a potter) in the area where the mug was found. Although it could just as easily be a gift or purchase from somewhere else, sometimes you can luck out and find someone nearby who recognizes the work or mark.
