I have been interested in Tischer vases for quite a few years, and when one came up at auction recently, I was very happy to be able to add it to my collection. And this 10.5" tall example, enameled in a deep burgundy red with blossoms and very realistic bees, was a beauty!
Not a lot is known about Tischer, although quite a few vases have been found with the Tischer, Karlsbad mark. It is generally known that he lived in Karlsbad (Austria) and supposed that he had a decorating studio there roughly between 1880-1900. I have been collecting files of all the Tischer vases I come across, and all of the examples I have personally seen feature high-quality enamel work on white opaque Harrach blanks. Interestingly, they are usually well marked, both with the Tischer Karlsbad stamp, and with a hand written decor number.
Based on the vases I have found so far, I have been able to group many of them based on their decor numbers, and hope to find more examples to add to the known Tischer decors. So far I have identified ten different decors, and I would like to add more, so if you own a Tischer vase that is numbered, can you please let me know?
This particular vase is numbered D.703, which I have named 'Prunus with Bees'. The first three images are of my own vase, while image 4 is another example of the same decor, also number D.703, on a different shape. (Thanks to the auctioneer for allowing me to use their images for this post.)
Michelle I think their work is pretty interesting too.
They were seemingly attempting to make glass imitate pottery and porcelain in many of their efforts. I have a few pieces of their work, but they're packed away (I think I've posted pics of them on the Bohemian Glass FB page before).
Hopefully someday someone is able to uncover their story.

I'm really getting into this 'earlier' Bohemian art glass and learning to appreciate the ultra-fine workmanship on these pieces - just love this Michelle!

Now I went looking for the Tischer at Karlsbad and discovered that no-one knew anything about them on the glass sites. But I also noted that a Tischer was doing similar decoration on porcelain. I went looking for an example of their mark .... found nothing yesterday evening but this morning I had another look. Still no mark but a description on Worthpoint:
"This unique antique porcelain ewer was designed by Tischer and made at the Karlsbad factory according to the mark on the bottom of the piece. The horseshoe shaped mark has Tischer and a scripted combined TR with Karlsbad above and was used in the 1890s. The vine, leaves and flower design is a typical Tischer touch (see below). It is in good condition with some loss to the gilt on the handle from years of use but no chips or cracks."
Same mark, no???
Yesterday evening I found out about the porcelain Tischer:
1896 - ca. 1910: Julius Tischer
ca. 1910 - 1919: Gustav Tischer
ca. 1919 - 1938: Eduard Stiassny, Reichenberg
"Porcelain factory founded in 1896 by Julius Tischer, later Gustav Tischer.
Since ca. 1919 until 1938 it was owned by Eduard Stiassny, operating under the name "Eduard Stiassny, Reichenberg", hence the "R" in the signature."

You are always so thorough in your research! You know, I came across an issue with Tischer that I have come across with enameled opaline Baccarat - even though their pieces are glass, they are often misidentified by sellers. In several cases, the Tischer vases I have found are described as being porcelain, but are actually glass, and usually Harrach blanks. I think this is the case with the ewer you mention. As Brian noted in his comment, they did appear to want to give the effect of porcelain to their pieces and enameled the entire body of their pieces.
I made a Tischer, Karlsbad pinterest board today with some of the images I have collected, so you may want to have a look at other examples of their work. As far as the Tischer name, it comes up in google in the region, so I don't know how unusual a name it was. He may have been related to the Tischers you found, but we may never know. Of course, it is also very plausible that after decorating glass work, he or a member of the family went on to porcelain - I'd love to know! :)

Kevin, I just checked out the ewer you mentioned on worthpoint - definitely glass, not porcelain. I have seen other pieces in the exact shape - a Harrach blank.

I have been delving further and have found a version of the Eduard Stiassny sticker. It is different to the Tischer mark and does not include the Horseshoe. ut it does include the E and S, a crown above and an R below.
The Tischer Horseshoe has a combo of T and R. The common element being the R for Reichenberg. Reichenberg these days is known as Liberec. It is a both a large city but also the name of a region. "Liberec Region is an administrative unit of the Czech Republic, located in the northernmost part of its historical region of Bohemia. It is named after its capital Liberec. The region shares international borders with Germany and Poland."
"Harrachov is a town in Semily District, Liberec Region, in the northern Czech Republic, close to the border with Poland." Liberec = Reichenberg
The town of Maffersdorf is also in the Liberec region. (Liberec = Reichenberg).
These days Vratislavice nad Nisou = Maffersdorf.
The Tischer porcelain factory was in Maffersdorf.

As I have read on GMB back in 2009 people where not sure at all about the "Karlsbad" written on the Tischer pieces; there were suggestions about Tischer perhaps marketing and exporting from the great tourist spa town rather than being produced there. Moser being the glass producer from Karlsbad.
Looking at the handle of that Worthpoint jug .... it has to be glass rather than porcelain.
Kevin, that is fascinating! Yesterday I was sort of wondering about Karlsberg being a spa town, and glass connections beyond Moser. It could make sense that it was a good place to market from. Great research into the places and name of Reichenberg - thank you! I will have to look into the Tischer porcelain factory. I always appreciate the new angles you add to our glass discussions! :)
Couple of interesting observations:
- I've been to dozens of glass centric museums in the Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany. I've seen many types of obscure glass makers represented, yet never once seen an example of Tischer glass represented.
- Deborah Truitt spoke with Jan Mergl, who at that time was living in Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad in German) about Tischer glass. He's well aware of it, but really had no idea about any background on the company, which seems to be the general consensus of all of the museum curators that we asked.
