I'm posting this amazing Teens or 1920's beaded bag for my friend - she provided better pictures so I'm reposting. Note open picture #2 there is no little "made in...." tag. This was found at Round Top, TX last week with the other amazing purse. The approximate size is 6.5"x9" (w/fringe).

I've searched through my research books and online but can't find a similar example. Wonder if this might be a German item? I think it is was a one-of-a-kind order made by a very talented crafts woman. I read that beads were strung on wax coated cotton thread in reverse order of the design. I love tiny beads, but I can't imagine the time and eyesight this took!

Sorry Val I missed this, yes I was traveling :).
In just a few minutes I will send you some photos from my reference book. There are purses with similar frame from 1910 but with this geometric pattern I think yours is from 1920 like you suggested. Wonderful purse!

Thank you Elisabeth for your photos from the book you shared, but nothing is similar to this. I think this is 1920's or earlier with the tortoiseshell frame. Fun research project - I am sure I'll find out more about this. XOXO.

My wife has collected these for years. Mainly the metal mesh ones actually. Dresden, Mandalian and Whiting and Davis brands.

Thanks Signaholic - I will check to see what your wife has posted. I'm not as interested in metal mesh - I love it, but not my obsession. I love the old tiny beads: both metal and glass like this.

Yesterday I was looking in a big book I bought and although I'm not real happy with the purchase and trying to figure out exactly how to find things in it, I found a similar purse, this one is much nicer and it was valued at over $4,800.00!!! So I think your friend will be very happy hearing that if she doesn't already know it!

How can a purse be worth that much?? Precious gemstone beads maybe? Thank you - I will let her know :-)
    13. shareurpassion shareurpassion, 4 years ago
No precious gemstones, I mean. Ok, I just had to go back to it to make sure I was making the correct statement. No stones at all! It's like a painted surface on a W & D mesh bag. It doesn't even say if it's silver or not! I would think it has to be but??? You know what, the others do state whether or not the frame is silver, so... The one here is dated 1915-1925.

And do you remember who it was that posted a poodle handbag? There is a bulldog handbag in this book that is over 4g's too! Crazy!
