This necklace is a recent addition to my collection. I believe this piece is called a knife edge bar necklace. The Diamond is rose cut and the pearl is cultured, what I'm most interested in is the opal, I'm hoping Paul will know what type it is. The opal itself displays an enormous amount of colour, looking from the back it isn't a doublet, it's difficult to see from the photo from back but but there is colour that comes through. I have a feeling that 9ct gold chain as been a replacement as the pendant itself is a lovely rose colour and the chain isn't.
Many thanks for looking.
What a gorgeous combination; rose cut diamond, pearl and opal. It's all so beautiful.
Paul knows best, but my idea is this is a Lightening Ridge opal, or possibly Coober Pedy.
So beautiful Jean, gorgeous opal!!!
Hi Karen, I was looking at Paul's opal's and the one that stood for me was a opal ring, the opal was from Lightening Ridge, hopefully Paul will drop by and and give us is verdict. I also love the combination of the Diamond, Pearl and Opal together it is very striking. As alway Karen thanks for your lovely comment.
Awwww, thanks Judy.
Beautiful!
Thank you Enameled_Beetle, your collection of jewellery is amazing, I can't wait to see your future treasures.
Love the combo! so elegant!
Are you sure the pearl is cultured? It could really be a natural one :-)
The diamond is rather cushion old mine cut than rosecut.
Hi kyra, I have absolutely no idea If the pearl is natural or cultured, the only thing I've tried is the tooth test and it is gritty, I thought both natural and cultured pearl are both gritty?
Also I'll hold my hands up I just assumed the Diamond was rosecut because of its age, I'll look up cushion cut. Thanks as always for your help.

This is interesting reading on natural or fake pearls.

I also found this information on old cut diamonds. I think it is good to put these links on so other people plus myself have some kind of record to fall back on.

Reminds me of the Ethiopian opals I collect, but they are a fairly recent find.
Hi Sammyz, thanks for your comment, I'm thinking more lightening ridge opals, I'll certainly have a look at the Ethiopian opals.
Hi Jean, no doubt this is a lovely Lightning Ridge solid black opal. It has great colour with plenty of red, - a very nice piece!
Hi Paul, thank you for letting me know that this is a Lightening Ridge solid black opal, as always thanks so much for your help.
Many thanks
