    Good evening,
I've come across this pipe in my late grandfather's collection

It has the following on it
    Kafir kop
    Winberg
    Feb 4th 1901
    The buffs
And 4 hallmark stamps on the silver collar
And possibly another name on pipe but I can't make it out

    Thanks for your time

Possibly something to do with "The Buffs" (Royal East Kent Regiment) and their role in the Boer War 1901.
      It is a lovely piece!

Right, as said above The Buffs took part in the Second Boer War and ``kop`` means ``hill``. Possibly Spion kop battle.
The collar is silver plated, lacking British sterling assay marks.
