This is a metal collector plate I recently acquired, I'm wondering about the date, maker and value, it's got some scratches and small chips, the second pic is the back of it with the history of the Dr. Pepper company
I'm just looking to find the manufacturer and date of this plate, also some knowledge of value, it's not for sale, Thanks, Richard
This plate was made by the Charles Shonk Co of Chicago for the 1910 reopening of the Texas Cotton Palace Exposition in Waco which, at the time, was touted as the Cotton Capital of the South. The Texas Cotton Palace had its first Exposition in November 1894 but shortly thereafter, the Exposition hall was destroyed by fire. It was not until November 1910 that it was reconstructed and reopened. Dr. Pepper was located in Waco and commissioned this plate as an advertising "give-away" at the 1910 Exposition to commemorate the reopening. These tin plates were made by several manufacturers during the 1904 to about 1913 era primarily for advertising purposes. various examples can be seen by Googling "Tin Vienna Art Plates"
