Hello! My grandma just gave me this and I very much plan on keeping it and making it my own. She saved it and it's got a family story behind it. Long story short, it was used as a prop in a dinner theater and she saved it from being thrown out. If I am able to find anything out, I know she would be tickled pink. Any-who, I was just wondering if anyone out there might be able to tell me how old it is? And, does the carving look to be hand done? Anything else would be great! I found the stamped milk crate on the bottom and thought it was neat. It says "Hosse and Blackwell." Thanks for any info ahead of time!

Lovely piece. Not much to share here except for the fact that my mom had one and she called it a "love seat". Not too comfy for sitting. But it is very nice looking!

I can't add much either. But I had (with my brother now) one almost exact. And I know it's approximate age.
In 1972 my parents purchased a three story hotel, restaurant and lounge in Apalachicola, Fl. And the building was complete (if my memory serves me here) in 1904, give or take a year or two. And this loveseat (as we call ours as well) was from the original furnishings. But I haven't any other info. But I do remember the fabric being very similar also. So I'd say it was made either late 19th century or early twentieth century. That's all I have. Good luck in your quest to learn more.
And I totally agree with the prior comment, easy on the eyes, not so much the body.

Thank you guys so much! You are correct, it's not very comfy! He he...I do know that she re-did the fabric. She said it was covered in ugly paint, so she stripped it and this was the result. Again, thank you guys!!

Ours had not been painted, thank goodness! And my mom recovered ours in a faux leather. So your mom went closer to original. Have a nice day!
