It's been a while since my last post but I still make sure to check in to see what every one else has been posting. I was at Saver's this morning and I found this wonderful sculpture sitting on the bottom shelf of their " bric-brac" or "bricky" section for short. It's a quite heavy plaster cast reproduction of what I believe is the "Scone Mare and Foal by Gabriel Sterk which is in Elizabeth Park in Australia. It's a reverse of the original but the pose is the same and they added the tree stump under the mare to make the legs stable and not so fragile. It's in great condition too. Just a bit of dust and no chips or losses. It does have an embossed mark but I can't read it. "Made in".....possibly or something. It measures 6"x 13" at the base and the mare is 10" tall. I'd say it's weights about 8 lbs. or so. Quite a nice piece for only six dollars ! -Mike-

Elizabeth Park is well known for the beautiful bronze sculpture of Scone Mare and Foal by Gabriel Sterk.
It is probably the most photographed mare and foal in Australia; everyday children and adults alike climb on for a photo.
The Park is a popular place for people traveling on the New England Highway to stop and have a break, with plenty of picnic tables, shade and play equipment for children.
Elizabeth Park is opposite the Scone Tourist Information Centre, the Scone Railway Station and is a short walk to grab a coffee and food from nearby cafes.

Scone is in a district renowned for it's racehorse breeding; think green fields, white fences.....money. Note the name Scone rhymes with the word stone, unlike the food scone which rhymes with on. :)
How on earth did you make the association Mike? Surely there are many mare and foal sculptures and yet you found the Scone one!! Well done!
Do you think this was a tourist piece , or made as a plaster trial? It's quite lovely.

Thanks Alan and Karen for the "loves" and comments. While I was searching online I was paying particular attention to the pose. You are right Karen there are a lot but the nursing foal and the way the mare is nuzzling and licking him only matched the Scone statue. The mark looks like an "eye" in the center and some indistinct words surrounding it. I've tried all "photo shop's" tricks on it and still can't decipher it. It probably is a souvenir piece because it's marked but what if it where a study for the Scone statue ??....that would be amazing ! Odd to find it here in the Cleveland Ohio area of the U.S. but you never know. Stranger things have happened. :)

Hey Mike do you have any band photos to share. Was your singer a girl?
    9. mikelv85 mikelv85, 7 years ago
I might Roy. They're on an old hard drive I don't have hooked up right now. We had member changes over the years from 78-84. Originally it was just a guy singer. We were doing Alan Parsons back then and the usual standard bar stuff. The next two bands we added our girl singers and changed them twice. Our guitarist's Monte Carlo was stolen right in front of his girlfriends house as he was dropping her off and he had all our demos and tapes in the trunk. Yes he left it running to walk her to the door ! They found it stripped at one of the local lake view parks. So aside from a few newspaper clippings there's no record of all our hard work over the years.
