This is one of my finds when I went to Newark antique fair. I love Austro - Hungarian jewellery so I'm extremely pleased to add this to my collection.
Well were do I start, as you can see it as everything from enameling on the 8 panels and also what I would say on the spires of each panel, there is a small amount of enamel loss but considering the age the bracelet is in great condition. Also on the central spire of each panel is an opal, I think these opals are called Hungarian opals, I have tried to show the amazing colour of these opals, I shall put a link below explaining the history of them. The tongue on the front as a mark which I've researched but come up with nothing, on the back it is marked 835 and PV for Budapest. I always look at the back of any jewellery I buy because I think it shows the quality of the piece, the back of this bracelet is amazing it's a work of art in its self. I shall let the photo's do the talking, if anybody recognizes the mark on the front that would be brilliant, I'm also not sure of the date except the Austro-Hungarian mark went out of existence after WW1

    Many thanks for looking

Hi Judy, yes I wear it often, the one thing that bothers me it doesn't have a safety chain, it's a very heavy bracelet so I would know if it came off.

Ahhh... perhaps opaline glass from last pic... but in other views, it seems stones have a strong blue opalescence, not as milky as opaline art glass...
Would love to have it in hands for examination! ;-)))
    13. Peasejean55 Peasejean55, 6 years ago
Yes, on that last photo that particular stone as a milky look to it, the other stones as you say have a strong blue colour.

Here is a ZW bracelet, stones described as being Dragon's breath glass (which I disagree, dragons breath is orangy with floating blue hues in it!):

I searched for Hungarian opals (yes, opals are mined in Hungary too!)...
See what was nearly under our eyes:

Hi kyra, wjp brooch with the opals are very similar coloured stones to my bracelet. With the Hungarian connect could the stones in this bracelet be opals?
    17. kyratango kyratango, 6 years ago
      I do think so!..... :-) ......... :-)....... :-D
    18. Peasejean55 Peasejean55, 6 years ago
Hi kyra, I did think they were but it’s great to have a second opinion after reading that there are a lot of Austro-Hungarian jewellery use glass. Do you think the Zoltan White brooch also could be opals?
    19. wpj wpj, 6 years ago
If you have been collecting these Hungarian opal pieces for a long time you can
tell what is opal and what is not. Not only can you catch glimpses of opal fire
in the opal pieces they have a different look than the glass stones. I have also
found over the years that if one soaks opals in water it brings out the colors more
and glass does not do that. Dragons breath has only the oranges and blues. I think I read these opals from Hungary are no longer mined. I love them. Love this bracelet. Thanks for sharing.

Oops wpj, first of all I apologize for my late response. I bought this bracelet at the Newark Antique fair in the UK. I do believe they are opals from Hungary, but I know more about Australian Opals.
It definitely has that Austro-Hungarian look so OTT, but I can’t help but look at the workmanship, it really is amazing.
