This shape is commonly regarded as being the work of Hospodka. However not all of Chribska's glass of this type was designed by Hospodka. Equally this type of glass was also produced in Poland and Canada (Chalet).

This vase is unusually large and heavy. It has a four lobed foot and a four part rim, with thick, clear ribs running down to the foot. The ribs are best seen in image four, as is the fact that these were hot worked and thus no two shapes are the same, nor even parts of a shape ie. the 'wings' of this vase.

    Height 32.5 cm./12.75 inches Weight 3.5 k./ 7lb. 12oz.

My initial response when I saw this was "Oh that's so cool". Well it's more than cool Peggy... it's a lovely, lovely piece of art glass! It has gorgeous colors and a fantastic shape... I love it!

Hi Rick, I'm a little surprised at your enthusiasm, but do appreciate it, thank you :)

Although I don't collect this type of glass Peggy, it doesn't stop me from appreciating its beauty and the vision of the artist. Like some of Karen's Japanese glass and Rose's Chalet, I love different shapes, colors and textures. Karen just posted one which is one of my favorite pieces that she's shared. Being that your vase is atypical for you, I guess you just didn't know that I love other glass also.

Rick, I had noticed that your interests are varied, but of course we can all only know what other collectors tell us via posts and comments. I used to collect Czech glass of various types dating from the late 40's to the late 80's. By the time I came across C.W. I was into Czech Art Deco and my interests have continued to go back in time.

That said I still like glass from this later period and will post a few pieces here and there.

Took a real artist to create this, its quite stunning. What fantastic art !

Yes I know this is a shared interest, Karen, but some of it is as big as Japanese pieces and space is ever more limited so.......... but it will be hard!

Thank you, shareurpassion, it's always pleasing when someone else sees what I see :)

I agree, Phil, and in my opinion the artist here is the designer. As Karen mentioned these were hot-worked at the furnace which itself demanded great skill. Not least when it came to the large pieces weighing close on 8lbs, as this one does. Nevertheless Hospodka's designs have a flow and balance not always seen in this style of glass.
