    My father brought it back from Japan in the 40s .It is 7 inches in diameter and is made of ivory, it is a puzzle ,it looks to be ,I would love some information on this thank you .

      Not japanese, Google for canton puzzle ball :-)
      They usually had a high ivory stand for display.
      You can count the different balls by alignment of them with a stick through one of the holes.
