Added into the first two photos were American Flags as the publisher thought it would be more pleasant if they were shown. There may have been flags on the poles, but these are all totally edited in by the air-brushing studio before the images went into production.

Interesting how they edited so well even back then. Technically they were real photos, but they were airbrushed into coloured 'views' with 'enhancements'.

    2 souvenir view folders. 1910s and 1920s.

Have a nice (preferably quiet) July 4th. :)

Fireworks legalized here in CA this year! but illegal in Long Beach. Didn't matter, was quite a show on the beach competing with the sanctioned Queen Mary showin the harbor last night. It wasn't quiet, but setting off fireworks on the beach near water is much preferable to the ones I saw behind me in neighborhoods....

      Happy 4th btw!

Also noticed driving from east to west Iowa last week many firework displays. We drove through them at Carson just shy of Council Bluffs on the 2nd blasting all around us.

Thank you, Valentino. They're very damaging to the environment, though. My eyes watered on July 4th, and I covered our fish pond with a tarp to prevent chemical damage from killing them. They were still going off yesterday.

Spirit - I Agree! I'm not a big fireworks fan. So much trash leftover on the beach - clearly they didn't feel like they had to clean up after their show. We have a pretty clean beach otherwise! I guess my point (ha ha, sorry I know very vague!!) was that with fireworks legalized this year people bought, got crazy, set them off everywhere with no sense of responsibility. I was nervous driving thru them in the town of Carson, IA.

Oh yeah. You never know when one will erupt under your car. It's happened before.
