Hello again to all my friends on CW!!

Another doorstop that I acquired this year. This one is made by the I.S. Spencer & Sons Foundry, in Guilford, CT. It's a double sided "wedge" type doorstop. He measures 12 1/8" tall by 9" wide and weighs 5.5 lbs. I've only seen a couple of these over the years. So, when I saw this one I grabbed it quickly.

This one is cast of brass. The original design of this doorstop was produced of cast iron and painted as well. I believe this one was produced much later than the original cast iron design was. I could never afford the cast iron version of this guy.

I.S. Spencer & Sons Foundry was founded in 1851, in Guilford, CT, by Israel Stowe Spencer. They produced school desks, lamp pedestals, bicycle parts and doorstops, among other items. They stayed in business until 1982.

Hope you enjoy him as much as I do.

Thanks to all for stopping in for a look!

    Scott

      Sue,
Thanks so very much!! up until several years ago I wouldn't have known anything about this either. But, lots of study and research, over the years, has made me develop and eye for these.

      Gary,
Thanks! The original cast iron version was made between 1900 and 1920. This guy was probably made between 1930 and 1950.
