8" and glued together over the years - - I love this 50's or 60's green cockatoo. It has cursive signature on bottom but I can't make anything out. Maybe this was a handmade crafter's item in the 1950's?. I found it at the Cerritos, CA swap meet years ago for a dollar. Not precious, but I love the spread wings and detail in flowers and chartreuse glaze.
Sulfur crested beauty!
I think your cockatoo is adorable.
Looking as proud as a peacock
Karen - an actual color of a cockatoo?
Bonnie - thank you. Chartreuse was so popular in the 60's....I have other figurines and ceramics in this color.
John - Yes, a proud stance. They did a pretty good job, it's realistic, not comic.
Thanks friends: Ken, Scott, Judy, Vintage, Fort, Caper, Phil, Mike, Aura, Bonnie, Bijou, Zilla, Vintagefran and TheDuchess :-)
About as precious as it could get, glad to see it has a caring home now, its a beaute !!
Thanks Phil - Sitting up on the bookcase no one can tell he has some glue issues :-) yes, he is a beaute!! These are not that common to find anymore.....er...for what I want to pay :-)
Thank you Rick, Jean and Share for your loves :-)
$1 is a awesome price to pay for something so cool. I love your bird! The coloring is wonderful.
Thank you Karen! Doesn't that color scream 50's- 60's?
Thanks everyone for loving the bird: Mike and Ted :-)
i never get tired of these!
Thank you ho2. It was perfect when I found it, I admit to breaking it....sad. I am posting a wonderful Asian lady just for you....
Thanks for the loves: Karen and Ivonne!
Mary I think the Cockatoo is William Maddux Pottery of California early 1940's, but Clay Sketches of Pasadena Calif. did some very similar, in the early 1950's. Maybe something to look for! :^D
The Asian lady might be Yona, but a number of California Potteries, made this type, in competition with Japan, and China, in the late 1940's-50's! Nice finds on both! :^)
Bill, always so nice to hear from you - thank you, hope you are having a great Summer. I know my figurines are better quality kitsch because of the detailed painting and glazes. I will check out your suggestions! Thank you, thank you!
Oops, how'd that happen, forgot a love here too! I Love Love Love it! :^)
