Found it in a lot of postcards from a neghbouring city. I'm not sure if it's a shipyard or mining operation.

    Circa 1910.

What is going on? Nothing is on the back.

      Building a building, perhaps?

Yeah looks like foundation work, LOTS of work

      A nightmare, surely.

Center: you can see them pouring cement that looks like it's going to be 4 foot thick with some huge columns, Empire State building? lol
    5. SpiritBear, 7 years ago
Most likely something in or near G.H. like the others. Wanna help build it?

Only in yesteryear unless it a supervisor job AND the price is right ;p

Look at all that rebar. I don't think I have ever seen so much. Must be a foundation. Looks like something that would be in earthquake country.

      Hoover (Boulder) Dam construction?

I don't think they're placing the cement yet, rebar isn't done, the forms are just flooded, besides there would be at least 50 men there to work the pour. It's a foundation of some kind, with a large crane that the photographer is taking the photograph from. How about those hanging tracks, for bringing those hoppers in and out, won't ever see anything like that anymore, an accident waiting to happen! :^D
In California, piers would be 4' around, and down to bedrock, 20' on center, and the slab on top of them would be at least 8' thick, just to meet earthquake codes! :^)

Thank you all for commenting. It's a shame they never wrote on the back of it.
