The 1960's was a turbulent period for the US railroads. The airplane and automobile were sucking away passenger traffic. The government was giving them problems over freight rates. Railroads wanted to dump passenger trains but had to fight government to do it. Many trains did com off in the 60's, but the PRR still had some class. You could still get swordfish in the PRR dining cars in 1962.

North American lost out on high speed rail. Would personally prefer the train to flying but too slow.

I've ridden the rails all across Canada & loved it. Great food to compliment our brownies. LOL ! Bribed a sleeping car porter once to let us sit on the little gallery at the back of the last car and will never forget that harvest moon reflecting off the rails & Lake Superior. The Canooks have "ribbon rail" with no clacking.

That is quite the fancy menu. I will have the steak and a daiquiri.
