Hard to take a good picture of chips, the white dot is camera glare...

3"x7/8" black bakelite brooch carved from half inch (.5") at the center tapering to 1/8" at edges. Very nice, like a bow tie. I think this is from the 1930's because of the intricate work. Embedded c-clasp, I probably don't have to mention this to my friends - it's hand carved.

Very nice Val.... Am I wrong in assuming black is rare for bakelite jewelry. I'm used to seeing Victorian "vulcanite" or"gutta percha" when it comes to black. I always seem to associate bakelite with "candy colors". Shows how much I know :)

Phil - thank you for your nice comment!

Mike - black bakelite is common. It's hard to test w/simichrome, so I use the "rub and smells like ether" test. Also I think bakelite pieces are heavier than vulcanite or gutta percha.

Lentilka - it was ebay and in my budget!

Thanks friends for loving this bakelite pin: Roy, Scott, Judy, Bonnie, Thomas and Ted :-)
