I really love this necklace by Bernard Instone, it looks terrific when worn. I suppose with his work you look for gem stones and enameling this has neither. There are 7 panels which to me look to be of a Celtic design, each panel is marked B.I and sterling . The middle panel as the hallmark which is Birmingham and the year it was made was 1946. It's heavy, weighing in at 50 grams.

    Many thanks for looking

It is GORGEOUS! I love the fact that there are separate sections. Sometimes things have lovely enamels, glittering rhinestones and sometimes things are elegant all on their own. This piece needs nothing else to be beautiful, it simply is.

Hi KarenLR, yes the panels are what makes this necklace. I've seen another one exactly the same on the Bonhams archives website. Thanks for comment and passing by, your very welcome.

Yes shareurpassion it does sit very well around the neck, it's quite small around 14 inches 36 cm luckily I have a small neck, lol. Thanks so much for your comment it's much appreciated.

Hi Judy, in a way it reminds me of Jakob Bengel pieces, they were made in a bygone era but somehow still manage to look modern. As always thanks for your comment.

Awww, thank you Karen, it certainly is different to his usually pieces, I suppose that's why I like it. As you say it's fully marked so there is no denying its his work which is also a plus.

Thank you kyra, yes it doesn't look your run of the mill Bernard Instone. I think around the time this necklace was made he was beginning to change his style. As always thanks for your comment.
