Hello I found this old pen today and it's marked silver and has a makers mark. I have never had one of these before so seeking help from someone who knows more about them,as not sure what these are called and how old this one might be. Any tips on how to clean this without damaging it would be good.

I believe that is from Collins & Cook in birmingham 1873(?) Are you that's not a pencil?

I forgot to mention, as for gently cleaning it and a lot of other things, I would recommend you buy a jewellers cloth. It will work wonders and cost you less than $10. Go to most any local jewelry shop and ask for one, they usually have good ones. Just wash your hands after using it and don't rub your eyes. They'll do their manic long after they've turned grey from cleaning silver and other things.
