Railroad china sparks memories of the famous old trains, with their elegant accommodations and great food in fancy dining cars. Collecting railroad china is a wonderful hobby, but it also can take up lots of space. That is where collecting railroad butter pats makes a great hobby. These pieces, ranging from 3" - 4" diameter are gorgeous little representatives of dining car china. Most patterns had butter pats, although some are rare and thus priced accordingly. In general, these are miniature pieces of the full blown pattern. Although many are not back marked, some are dated with maker's marks and others have full blown back stamps just like their bigger cousins. Shown from left - right in the top row are Erie, UP, IC, and Santa Fe. Second row UP, B&O and PRR. Bottom row CN, C&O, RI and CB&Q. Try butter pat collecting. It is lots of history in a small space.

People may think railroad china would not be this nice but it is or was. Goes with the fine dining on the rails.
