They do say things go in threes so when I saw this one.......

However this one is interesting to me because, unlike the majority of Welz vases of the period, it doesn't have a cut rim. Welz baskets on the other hand almost always have rims of this type.

In image three you see it with a similarly rimmed Welz vase in a red and blue décor. This one came from Australia with the help of a very kind friend.

Image four shows others with this type of rim.

Just wondering if that vase in the third photo has a half-daisy head pattern on the rigaree? I used to have a vase of the same shape, in a clear, unlined pale pink, with a half-daisy head rigaree...thought it was English at the time, but looks like it was Welz...

It does have a half daisy head pattern and it's a crimp pattern that was used a lot by Welz.

I've never found out whether glass companies had crimping tools ordered to their own design or whether they just went down to the crimping toolshop and picked the one they liked lol

That definitely makes me rethink a lot of what I've read about identifying glass by things such as half-daisy head crimps...some reference books have implied it was an entirely English design. I have quite a few items with such crimps (full daisies as well) so it's interesting indeed to speculate on who might have made them. As for the crimping tools, it is difficult to know the whys & wherefores of their origin. It could have been the case that various manufacturers produced specialised tools made to order for certain factories, or that perhaps glass makers had their own tool - makers "in house". It just makes the whole puzzle of antique glass that much more intriguing!

I've come to this 'early' Welz by a different route from you and think, sometimes, it would help to compare thoughts, ideas on pieces. In the absence of books all we have to go on is the glass and the glass of others.
You can find my email in my statement at the top of my page. I'd be pleased to hear from you.
