I love this set, it is beautifully made but I can't figure out what the signature is, or what the other marks might be. I am fairly sure it is silver and it has a lovely hammered surface with age patination. The brooch has a trombone type clasp and is just a little over 2 inches across. The buttons are also signed and are 1 inch across.
The signature is FL then possibly 'vauge' or 'rauge'. I am hopeful that someone out there will recognise it and let me know. It's difficult to research as nothing seems to come up for the various combinations of letters that I have tried.
I don't know anything about the history as it was something that I bought on eBay a few years ago, but it definitely looks like early 1900's arts & crafts and such a great design that I am sure the designer/maker must be known.

It is silver, your set seems to bear the French silver hallmark boar's head 1838/1962

The makers mark is typically french in lozange shape, I can't read the initials on it, but seems it isn't F L who must be the designer/artist.

Can't either decipher the whole signature... perhaps the stamps on the buttons are clearer?

The signature is really tiny and as well as the little boar's head mark there is another tiny mark with writing in it. I will try to get a better macro lens to zoom in if I can. Thanks for your comments kyratango :)

Yay! I've just found out that these are by Fernand Grange, quite an important designer around the art deco period - trying to find out more about him.... seems more well known for his metal vase forms.

      Hello,

You've probably seen the pieces in the link below. Plates, a tray and vases. His work is quite dull and dark for my taste - but maybe that makes you look at them longer.

Hi Gillian, as a designer/maker myself I appreciate his work very much and the more I see of it the more it grows on me. The jewellery pieces of his that I have are beautifully made - probably not immediately noticeable on my terrible photos, but with amazing attention to detail, balance and craftsmanship. The jewellery pieces are only dark because of the age patina. I know there is a lot of black in his vessel forms - I like that although I know it is not to everyone's taste.
