Tall metal ashtray stand. Not so sure of the year this was made. I was thinking late 1960 early 1970 era. I don't smoke so will be using it as a garbage can.

It's funny I just found one similar at the Flea Market, but it has a spin dump on the ashtray, that drops the ashes in a container just under the tray, so nothing on top drops into the trash below, that could maybe start a fire. Does yours have a separate container for the ashes on top? Mine is a newer one though, with green yellow and red color bands, Jamaican look, with a cartoon character man licking a rolled cigarette paper(joint) covering the can, I don't smoke either, but know some that might like it, and the price was right, so I bought it! :^)

Hi billretirecoll mine does not have a separate container for the ashes. You have some neat ashtrays.

Hi charmsomeone, I'm guessing your smoking stand/trashcan is more 1980's, think I remember similar styled units used in various 'commercial spaces' (shopping malls, office buildings, hotels, etc) back around then, at the tail end of the era when it was actually still allowable to smoke a cigarette anywhere within a 'public building'. <sigh>
Also, even if not currently present, there would have certainly been some sort of additional pan/tray immediately under the lid, to do as bill suggests and keep any hot cigarette butt remains away from other random trash/litter deposited in the lower part of the can via that large hole in its side.
