I'm almost ashamed to admit I didn't realize the handle on this thing is actually also made of glass at first -- being used to seeing these with black bakelite (etc) handles, I just guessed it was clear plastic. NOT SO on this one, which measures approx. 6" long overall.

For anybody not familiar with them, gadgets like this are made by the PYREX glass people, so's to be able to safely clamp onto most any authentic PYREX baking dish's standard stubby little 'handle' and lift it out of the oven its otherwise been sitting in while holding your dinner-in-progress, without burning the cr*p outta yourself. ;-) :-) With its presumably PYREX glass handle, I guess this one would be "ovenproof" as well, if one would wanna clamp it on your baking dish at the beginning of the baking process for some reason, instead of just using it to retrieve the goods at the end...??

Perhaps somebody more knowledgeable than I can use the PYREX flame logo stamped onto its metal end to give it an approximate date -- I don't have the slightest idea. There's also the number "27" molded into one side of the handle near its business end.

And it is the hardest handle to get on or off, or at least my example is. A bolted-on handle is more detachable than this. LOL.

Pyrex "Flameware" by Corning was introduced in the mid-1930s and was produced until 1979. These clamp-on handles were mainly for use on stove top skillets and saucepans - there are several different designs.
I use "Flameware" with these handles as my everyday cookware. They shouldn't be difficult to use - I sure wouldn't use them if they were.

A tip to make these easier to use - do it with your left hand.
