This 1.25"x2" matte black lady is set in gold setting. It was a birthday present last year from dear Moonstonelover. :-) I wasn't able to find anything online, but a match from England - thank you expert Cameosleuth! for the ID of black basalt jasperware and gilded sterling. I think I will create a necklace from the tiny gold beads from a broken 1920's handbag. Will post when I finish :-)

Dates to between 1908-1969. Would have to see the hallmarks to know exactly when made.

Thank you Judy - I love it too!

Thank you Bonnie for this link. I tried to reshoot the marks using your technique combining macro and the loupe, but I still can't get a good picture with my old Canon. The first mark is JW and then 3 blocks, and I think the first of those is M. This looks like a 1960's item because the bale reminds me of 50's-60's. My guess is 1960's. Thank you :-)

Thanks everyone for your loves: Oroy, Fort, Hel!, Mike, Kevin, Ken

Think yours is very similar to this one?

Her unbound hair, thrown back head & tiptoe posture suggest she is a bacchante/maenad, in the throes of Dionysian ecstasy.

You can't do much cameo sleuthing without learning something about Josiah Wedgwood's work. Early on, before they became competitors, Wedgwood bought designs from James Tassie, who made & sold impressions of cameos & intaglios. Wedgwood also employed modelers, such as John Flaxman, who worked in the neoclassical style, taking inspiration from ancient gems. Am assuming that the JW mark indicates the metal work was also done by Wedgwood. :)
