Old half-gallon booze bottle (whiskey, maybe, since it's clear glass?) recovered from a corner of the 100+yr old barn on the farm. It probably hasn't been in there nearly that long, the remains of a screw-cap top would suggest more 1950's-60's I'd guess. Wording molded into it above the 'label area' reads "HALF-GALLON" on one side and "FEDERAL LAW FORBIDS SALE OR RE-USE OF THIS BOTTLE" on the other. The numbers "D234", "55" and "4" appear on its bottom surrounding a 'diamond-in-an-oval' logo of some sort. (does anybody recognize that detail?)

I haven't done anything to it except dumping out the (icky, stinky!) water + chunks that had otherwise accumulated in it, then rinsing it out once or twice more with plain water since. At the moment, it is currently helping decorate the landscaping by my kitchen porch, where I'm starting to think I kinda like it, without having to go to the trouble to clean it any further?!! ;-) :-)

Marking this an 'unsolved mystery' just in case anybody might happen to recognize what kind of liquor actually came in it, by its shape or something...y'all's thoughts/suggestions WELCOMED! :-)

It's an Owen-Illinois glass-mark on the bottom. Since they didn't have 55 plants, I'd think they reversed their plant-number and date-code, meaning the mould (not necessarily bottle) was made at plant 4 (out of 22, I think it was) in 1955.
Generic whiskey shape used since the later 1800s (not including the screw-top, of course).

WOW SpiritBear -- thanks so very much for sharing your lightning fast comment, which makes me feel good by confirming my suspicions that it probably both: a) once held whiskey, and: b) dates from the mid 50's. :-) :-) :-)

I know nothing (yet?) about the Owen-Illinois Glass Co, but even that likely makes perfect sense, considering the barn the bottle was found in is located in central IL?!! THANKS, AGAIN!! :-) :-) :-)
