    Incredible subject for a jewel....

Novelty pieces from 1870's depicted some strange creatures you wouldn't think of for feminine adornment...

Lizards, bats, frogs, insects, monkeys, turtles...

Which woman could wear a PRAWN?! (Beside me, of course!)

    5cm long by 1.6cm wide.

Boar's head hallmark and illegible French maker's mark on the C clasp.

    Very detailed, even on back!

I bought it from France, the seller thoroughly cleaned it before sending, silver was awfully bright making the paste stones look dull :-/

Several months later, after some match's smoke under it, some soft brushings with a soft brush blackened from previous old silver polishing and weeks staying in my bathroom near oxydised silver, it begin to get some patina...

This is amazing, as I love the subject!
I've spent my life on or near water. And where you call it a prawn, I call it a shrimp.
      Nice find!

Haha karenoke, thank you for your love and nice comment! :-)
I hesitate when it came to name it in the title!
So I did some search, lol!

Could change and name it a primp or a shrawn ;-))

Jean! Thanks! Yep, patina gives more contrast and volume to such pieces :-)

Mani! Yes, a sea creepy crawler! Unusual for sure :-) Thank you for your always appreciated comments and loves!

Gary! Oddly, I wear it while eating mutton chops too... ;-))) Thank you!

Vetraio! I'm very glad you enjoy it! Many tjanks for your lovely visit :-)

Judy, I'm an Internet hunting addict... So many things pop out while searching! But sure I didn't type "antique prawn/shrimp brooch" ;-)
Not by the mysterious maker with "urn mark", but I got some more pieces from him.... Now, will have to show them ;-))

Oh how fantastic! I love this shrawn primp brooch, it is amazing! Glad that women of earlier eras had imagination and style when it came to jewels. One thing, I would like to see the earlier bright version, can you share the photo? :)

Share, thanks! I'm pretty sure the lady who wore it first was facetious too ;-))

Katherine, the bright primp in as received state is now in the first pic !
Thank you for asking, and for your fantastic comment :-)

Many, many thanks for your loves, 23 primp/shrawn lovers!!!
