I would love to know about this piece. If I am right about it being 1809s. What stuleusthis under? What about those carvings inthe leg? Do you suppose it has a mirror etc etc

A lot of these pieces with the compartments at the top were made especially in the 1930's, and for that matter could be into the 1950's - hard to tell with pictures available. A traditional piece with really no relation to an 1809 or even 1890's age. The carving appears to be trying to be a Chippendale revival period. In reality they never used glass pull knobs like these during an antique furniture period. If you think it had a mirror then quite a new piece. Check behind for marks and or screw holes that show it once held a mirror. I have more than 200 books on furniture and nothing in them really resembles this, other than Chippendale style.
Did you see the handmade dovetail? There is no way this dresser cane out of 1930. And 1950 I can't even wrap my head around that!

I'll be a son of a gun I been had by the furniture industry! i have just been on google. Weird I could have sworn the construction would be totally different t of the dovetails. And I look up 1930s flame mahogany and see the sane damn empires I saw in the 19th century search! I mean the sane dressers. That will serve me for just looking at the image page. Well maybe I can Shabby Chic it lol
There is lots of good info on the internet and there are the same amounts of bad info. There also are some reproduction makers still in production today who make incredible furniture. Handmade dovetale even if looking first at all the telltale signs of age, cannot be the only signs of age on a dresser. The serpentine carving on top and the feet are carved beautifully from what I have seen of your pictures. There was a set of bedroom furniture with nice carvings on CW in the last month or 2.

Yeah well some guy got it at an estate auction for 60. Anyway I love the dresser but on top of the drawers on the very top are markings. My guess is it had wood there and then in the middle of the word it had a swinging mirror because it from based on what I see in the position of the screw holes but I don't see one on the right top drawer fun carving so that's weird just on the left
Oh gosh. I was voice texting! Anyway attachment markings on left, very top of the drawer but not on the right but there are darkvrings small I think 2 and one bigger screw hole in the middle
Nope one screw joke in middle and it looks like two round wood cylinder type things though his they got it in the wood so perfectly I'll never know. Except for a color variation it looks part of the dresser

This is NOT american empire by any stretch of the imagination. It isChippendale. I have seen the exact carving on a magnificent suite in the last while, although that set had carving up the sides also. Chippendale started in mid 1700's and is still popular today.
Thank you. I appreciate you sharing thT knowledge with me. They must have copied the handmade drawer pulls with a machine. I was reading an article today that said if the look too perfect it was probably done by a machine. I didn't look yet but I am going to. Because this really is in excellent condition to be that old. They did an excellent job making it look like one. Even all the wood inside and out is good quality but different variety. But it's still a nice piece like you said. Thanks for your help
