I ADMIT IT -- I'm stumped. What the h*ck IS this funny old thing???

From Mom's collection of 'basement workbench stuff' at the farm (and thus, *no telling* when/wherever she might have got it?) it measures a little over 9" long and its 'blade' is 2" wide. Made of now rusted iron, I think she used it to loosen soil for her houseplants. I find absolutely no markings on it whatsoever.

The teeth on its 'blade' end look to have been originally sharpened to some degree, and that piece is slightly angled from the handle with the hole in its center, sort of like it could have been bolted to a 2nd such piece maybe making some kind of ''cutter/scissor tool'. The hooped end of its handle (about 1-1/2" wide) also has a little ridge/groove stamped into it, very much like a pop-top bottle opener.

And yes, I realize that 'cutting tool' and 'bottle opener' don't usually go together -- this only making me more curious what the h*ck it really is...??

    YOUR CLUES/GUESSES WELCOMED! :-) :-) :-)

    ------------------------

EDIT: lzenglish and frisco have it spot-on!! This exact tool is pictured at that link (about halfway down on the RH side, under '4-blade metal chippers') along with 2 nearly identical variants. With those pictures, I *am* now also able to make out what must be the same stamping on mine, too?!! THANKS, GUYS!! <applause>

Now, with this further big clue, I'm left to wonder (guess) if Grandma/Grandpa could have actually used it for its intended purpose -- back when it was *their* farm and my Mom was just a child...could be...?!

    <very cool> :-) :-) :-)

Looks like a 4 pronged ice chipper to me. Open the link below, and scroll down to see a few look-a-likes, with the ringed end, like yours.
