I have been told that this is a 'bell' crock, but all of the research I've done has come up empty. The domed lid that looks like is present here is not actually a lid - it is attached to the base of the crock. If you were to pick this up, the bottom is open (as if it were made to sit on a plate or dish of some sort.)

I've never seen any crock like this, so I was curious if anyone knew about it. As far as I know there isn't a maker mark on it.

Any information will help - thanks!
