Found amongst Mom and Dad's 'auction stuff', I have to guess they got it via one of my Aunt's or Uncle's estates...probably Uncle Charlie. Also guessing this would have been a "premium" item given to SF RxR 'first class' passengers for some reason or other, and maybe dates from the 1950's or so. (??)

It is a very dark gray smoked glass bean shaped ashtray in a plain white gift box, bearing a series of "Native American" symbols and accompanied by a folded card which explains them to in fact represent a sort of goodwill wish for the traveler. There are no maker's marks on it, and it measures a little under 4" x 6" overall.

It was common for railroads to give away souvenirs to passengers, especially first class / sleeping car passengers. Amtrak still does. It also could be an item sold in lounge cars. The PRR sold sets of roly- poly and rocks glasses. UP sold drink pitcher / 4 glass sets in their lounge cars.
