This is a very large basket and but for the décor I would have passed it by. However anything Welz in a solid colour, or two solid colours as here, grabs my attention. The reason being that the almost complete lack of documentation on Welz means solid colour pieces will always present more identification problems than pieces in already identified décors or shapes.

I think this is Welz due to the style of the handle, the crimping of the rim and the moulded ribs with medallion which can be seen on other Welz pieces, including baskets.

In image three you can see a variety of Welz basket shapes and décors. The basket in blue/green honeycomb décor (centre fr0nt) has the same ribbing with medallion.

What a variety of shapes and decors. They seem very organic to me like an underwater world.

Thank you Ivonne. To me they have a 'homemade' look as the applied handles rarely seem to come out symmetrical.
