This brooch is a great addition to my growing Zoltan White collection. I came across this on eBay and luckily for me the seller didn’t write down the maker in their description which was great because I bought it at a great price.
I have a bracelet which I have posted on CW with the same coloured stone which I thought was opal, I now think they are glass. This brooch is typical of their design which have a very Austro-Hungarian look. While I was in Budapest recently I went looking for Austro-Hungarian jewellery but found nothing of any interest which was a same.

Many thanks for looking

This is so beautiful Jean!! I Really love these pieces and would like to find some but they are rarely seen here.
I do still wear my earrings though, which I love :-)

    Great addition to your collection!
Wondering if the stones have a colored foil under... they are really vivid if they were glass :-D

Hello Judy, they are often on the UK eBay site. The seller luckily for me didn’t mention the makers name in the description so bought for a song. I recently bought a ring by Zoltan White, it has a little chip in the stone, I’m hoping my friend might be able to polish it out. As always thanks for your comment.

Hi kyra I’ve put the link of my bracelet which I posted here on CW. I thought the stones were opal, I recently read that Austro-Hungarian used a lot of glass. This brooch does look similar to the stones in the bracelet. I don’t think there opal, the colour looks for to strong, unless as you say they could have coloured foil under, I’d be interested in your thoughts. Thanks for your comments.

Looking at these stones there is a strong blue colour coming through the pink.

The most similar color would be this:
    https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Man-made-opal-stone-flat-back_60082027004.html
But synthetics are far newest than your piece, and not transparent!

Scroll down the page and look at the color chart, some yummies there :-D

I'm curious if it would react to UV light.
Those are too similars one to another, glass is a strong possibility IMHO.

Hi kyra, I’ve tried to get into your link but no joy. I’ll try and get a UV light, I’ve forgotten how it would react?

The link works for me, try copy/paste it in your browser.
Opals dont fluoresce, but some glass with uranium will :-)

I’ve downloaded the app, copied and paste but still not working. I’m using an iPad Pro so may have something to do with apple.
