Cute mini Urchin basket, made by a member of the Passamaquoddy Native American tribe. It is one inch in diameter and one inch and a half in height, including the finial on top. It is made of tiny splints from the Ash Tree which is the traditional wood used in baskets made by the Wabanaki Tribes, and Sweet Grass is woven into the center of the lid and lashed to the rim of the basket.

The Sea Urchin is my most favorite basket shape to collect, out of all the shapes that the Wabanaki Tribes make. And this is only the second miniature I have found, now I have one made in the early 1900's and this one, made around 1950. I also have a miniature (4 inch diameter) Urchin basket made by Jeremy Frey that I asked him to make for me in 2013, so that one is not a "find". Enjoy the pics :)
