    (229 items)

A very large and extremely heavy ruby flashed goblet/cup attributed to Josepheninenhutte... c1850.

It started off just under just under a 1cm thick and if you look at the sides you can see how deep the ‘panel’ with the “intaglio” engraving...and it is really very beautifully done.

It is just under 10 inches tall and the weight is a hefty, just over 3.1/2 lbs...or! just over 1.1/2 kilos.

This is what I have found out about it .... Many of the items from this period were used as spa cups to take the patients "medicine" in.. then they took them home.
Some put their name in the circle or left it blank, you could see through it either way, They would have put the red layer over it if they didn't intent for one to be able to look through it.

    Thank you for looking...:-)

Oh - it breaks my heart when I see this lovely piece! I had one very similar to yours but it was a pocal with a lid. Before I had a chance to take a picture, my shelve collapsed and all what survived is the lid! I cannot get myself to put the lid into the garbage but at the same time I don't want to look at it. The moral of my story is to always check the shelves before putting anything on it:(

Ou, that hurts ! Did it appear to be in slow motion as you watched it fall ?
    22. freiheit freiheit, 6 years ago
No, I just went to bed. The shelf was in the spare bedroom and I heard a big bang. I knew what happened but hoped it was on of the other two shelves. No such luck! It was the shelf with my favorite stuff:(

      Hi inky,
actually I believe your finely cut goblet was made earlier, about 1840, and more possibly in Bohemia as in Silesia. Drinking glases were much smaller, as compared with a goblet of 1.5 kg and 10" size, this would be to uncomfortable to be used in a drinking bath town. This goblet, with it's fine face cuttings, diminution lense, and engravings got a preferred place in the living room of a well situated family.
