I found this interesting item while cleaning out a cellar. The wooden handle has a wooden screw top which closes a compartment for screwdriver heads.

There is no manufacturer's mark to be seen. This device, except for a little superficial rust is in really good shape.

If anyone can contribute anything as to its age, manufacturer, rarity, and/or value, please add to this post.

    Thanks!

These are called "Multi Tool Handles", "Poor Man's Tool Kits", etc. They evolved from the 1860's time frame period, and were used by many of trades, such as Carpenters, Handymen, Sailors, Shoe Cobblers, etc. Very Nice!

I had a very similar one for quite a while, sadly now lost. It was actually a reversible ratchet drive. Is this one?
    7. Ted_Straub Ted_Straub, 6 years ago
Thank you, racer...sorry to hear that your driver has been misplaced. Hopefully, it will turn up sometime soon! No, this is not a reversible model :( Thank your your input.

Hi, Bill! Thanks for the note, and for the tool reference. Yes, old tools are so interesting. I have some others that I must photograph and post. Hopefully, I'll get to that soon....thanks again!
