I'm guessing this fun little item probably first lived in a doctor's office someplace, likely an advertising/promo "gift" from the drug rep. It measures about 3-1/4" long and 1/2" wide and I don't know how old it actually is, though I don't suppose it is anything too terribly rare or special. Its front side bears the stamped name "PHOSPHO-SODA (FLEET) [reg.]" and its back has the (slightly curious?) words "LAXATION WITHOUT PROCRASTINATION OR IRRITATION WINS PATIENT COOPERATION". Wikipedia seems to suggest that FLEET PHOSPHO-SODA is a consumer product still made today, though it apparently now is a slightly questionable "remedy" for its intended "symptoms"...? <ahem>

It is a clip barbers use to hold the drape around the customer's neck. At least they used to use them.

Perhaps it could also have been used to clip a drape around a patient.

Thanks for the <loves> to bobby725, blunderbuss2, fortapache, Caperkid, and Trey and to flashlarue for your helpful suggestion!! It didn't occur to me that it could be a barber's 'drape clip' but that makes perfect sense too?!!
