I know it’s a chatelaine, but not much more. It’s very lightweight silver, puffy charms. What do you think?

It's not a chatelaine but a lucky charm. All of the various charms will represent some wish of good fortune for the wearer. I'm sure someone will be able help you more with what each of the charms represent. I only know the obvious ones. I think it's European. A very cool family treasure.

Well - it technically is a chatelaine. Here's one like it (yours is missing one charm). From Germany.

I thought a chatelaine had tools and necessities on them?

Sometimes called a Witch’s Charm, and Cima di Ruta. Or a Penca de Balangandan.

'Chatelain' basically means chain. These are charm chatelaines. They originally held keys that were carried by the head of the household staff or lady of the house.

She came here from Italy around 1910...and those may well have been her tools and necessities!
